Eguisheim Christmas Market 2026: dates, hours and how to get there without the stress

Updated 16 October 2026, from the official tourist office website (noel-colmar.com).

Eguisheim is built in concentric circles around its castle: you enter along the Grand’Rue and keep turning between half-timbered houses packed tightly together. In December the Christmas market, which holds the “Villes et Villages de Noël” label, brings around thirty artisans and makers into the village. It is also one of the few Wine Route villages still open until 30 December, well after Riquewihr and Kaysersberg have closed.

The flip side of that charm: no train stops in Eguisheim. You come by car, with three car parks that fill up early at weekends, or on the Christmas shuttle from Colmar station, which sells a limited number of tickets. This page gives you the verified 2026 dates and hours, the ways to get there, and the simplest option for a family or a group: a private van with driver from Strasbourg, Colmar or your hotel.

Two things to remember. On weekdays until 10 December, the market only opens at noon. And after 20 December, once Riquewihr and Kaysersberg have closed, Eguisheim stays open until the 30th, except 24 to 26 December; Colmar runs until the 29th and Obernai until the 31st. Between Christmas and New Year, Eguisheim and Colmar are the natural pair.

The market in brief

The chalets line the Grand’Rue, in the heart of the village. With around thirty stalls it is a human-scale market: artisans and makers, decorations, local food, mulled wine and bredele biscuits. The setting matters as much as the stalls: you wander the circular lanes as much as you shop.

Allow 1 to 1.5 hours for the market and a walk around the ramparts. The best time is a weekday morning or early afternoon, before the coach groups arrive. At weekends, aim for the 10:00 opening. Night falls around 16:30–17:00, which leaves two hours of lights before the 19:00 close.

Getting there: car, shuttle or private van

By car. The tourist office lists three car parks under their usual conditions: Mairie, Marronniers and Millénaire. On December Saturdays and Sundays, spaces go early. Coaches drop their passengers at the Mairie car park.

By Christmas shuttle. From 27 November to 20 December 2026, line 3 of the Colmar area Christmas shuttles links Colmar station to Eguisheim: €8 per person per day Monday to Thursday, €17 Friday to Sunday, free for under-12s with a reservation. Tickets are sold online only, with a daily limit, from 12 November 2026 at noon. Good value if you are staying in Colmar and travelling as a couple. After 20 December, there is no shuttle.

By private van with driver. Strasbourg Van picks you up at your hotel in Strasbourg, in Colmar or anywhere else in Alsace, at the time you choose. The Mercedes V-Class van carries up to 8 passengers and their luggage; a saloon car suits up to 3. In Eguisheim, your driver drops you as close to the centre as possible, then meets you at a pickup point agreed together. Your purchases stay in the van, and nobody has to stay sober to drive after a wine tasting. The price covers the whole vehicle and is confirmed before departure.

Combining with other markets

Eguisheim is about ten minutes from Colmar, which makes it the ideal stop in a longer day.

  • Eguisheim + Colmar (10 min drive): the village in the morning, Colmar’s six markets in the afternoon and the lights at nightfall. Works every day until 29 December, except 24 to 26 December. See Colmar Christmas Market.
  • Eguisheim + Riquewihr + Kaysersberg (20 to 25 min to Riquewihr, then 10 to 15 min to Kaysersberg): the classic village day, Friday to Sunday until 20 December, as Kaysersberg only opens at weekends. Details on Riquewihr, Kaysersberg and the wine-village Christmas tour.
  • Eguisheim + Ribeauvillé on 5–6 or 12–13 December, the only weekends of the Ribeauvillé medieval market, about 25 minutes away.

From Strasbourg, a stop in Obernai on the way back is possible, as its market is open until 20:00 Sunday to Thursday. Outside the Christmas season, see our Alsace Wine Route tour with private driver.

2027 dates

The 2027 dates of the Eguisheim Christmas market have not been published yet. The Wine Route villages generally follow the Advent calendar, from the last weekend of November to the weekend before Christmas, with Kaysersberg open at weekends only and Ribeauvillé on two December weekends. We will update this page as soon as the official dates are released.
