Kaysersberg Christmas Market 2026: dates, opening hours and how to get there without the stress

Updated 16 October 2026, from the official tourist office website (noel-colmar.com).

Kaysersberg is the Christmas village people come to see for its setting: a fortified bridge over the river Weiss, half-timbered houses along the main street, and the ruined castle above the valley. The tourist office notes that the market was voted “best Christmas market in France 2022”. It is small and run by craftspeople.

Its weak point is access. Kaysersberg has no railway station, the market only opens Friday to Sunday, and on those three days everyone arrives at once: compulsory park-and-ride at the entrance to the valley, Christmas shuttles from Colmar with limited tickets. This page gives you the exact 2026 calendar, the parking arrangements and our solution: a private van that drops you off and waits for you at the edge of the town centre.

The last day is Sunday 20 December: no market during Christmas week, nor on 24, 25 or 31 December. After that date, Colmar (until 29 December, open on Christmas Day), Eguisheim (until 30 December, closed 24, 25 and 26) and Obernai (until 31 December, closed 25 December) are still open.

The market in brief

The chalets are set up in the Cour de l’Arsenal and behind the Sainte-Croix church, right in the centre. You will mostly find crafts: decorations, wood and glass objects, local produce, mulled wine and bredele biscuits.

The village is small: allow 1.5 to 2 hours for the market, the main street and the bridge, more if you climb to the castle ruins. The quietest time is Friday morning, at the 10:00 opening; Saturday afternoon is the busiest. For the lights without the Saturday crowds, aim for Sunday from 16:30: night falls around 17:00 and the market stays open until 20:00.

Getting there: car, shuttle or private van

By car. On market weekends, the town opens park-and-ride car parks on the Lapoutroie road (Hinteralspach-Mauffrey site, DS Smith factory at no. 77, Carrefour Contact at no. 63) for €4 per vehicle, with free shuttles every 15 minutes from 10:00 to 20:30 to Place Gouraud.

By Christmas shuttle from Colmar. From 27 November to 20 December 2026, the Pays de Colmar Christmas shuttles link Colmar station to Kaysersberg from Friday to Sunday for €17 per person per day (free for children under 12, reservation required). Tickets are sold online only, with a daily quota, from 12 November 2026 at noon.

By private van. We pick you up at your hotel in Strasbourg, in Colmar or along the Wine Route, in a Mercedes V-Class van for up to 8 passengers. In Kaysersberg, the driver drops you off and waits for you at the edge of the town centre, then picks you up at the same spot at the time you choose. Fixed price for the whole vehicle, confirmed before departure; service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; drivers speak French, English and Arabic.

Combining with other markets

Two combinations that fit into one day:

  • Kaysersberg + Riquewihr + Colmar (Friday to Sunday). Riquewihr is a 10 to 15 minute drive away, Colmar about 20 minutes: Kaysersberg at opening time, lunch in Riquewihr, Colmar for the lights. This is itinerary 1 on the Alsace wine-village Christmas tour page.
  • Kaysersberg + Ribeauvillé medieval market on 5–6 and 12–13 December. Ribeauvillé is about twenty minutes away, passing Riquewihr.

Outside the season, the same route exists as a vineyard tour: Alsace Wine Route with a private driver. All the dates are on the Alsace Christmas markets page.

2027 dates
