Distance and journey time
From Place Kléber to Freiburg main station (the arrival point we used): about 88 km, around 1 hour 5 minutes by car depending on traffic (OSRM road calculation).
Why go to Freiburg?
- The old town: the cathedral (the Münster), the market square and the little canals running along the streets (source: Black Forest guide).
- A good lunch stop, according to the same guide, on a Black Forest day out.
- Lake Titisee, about 30 km from Freiburg: you can combine it with the city in one day.
- The university and business visits: Freiburg is a university city, with the travel that goes with it.
- December: the guide lists Freiburg among the Black Forest towns with a Christmas market. Days are short, so set off early.
What about public transport?
The train is a real option: Freiburg is on the Rhine valley line, which you usually reach with one change, for example at Offenburg. Depending on the timetable, some connections are faster than others. Check SNCF Connect or the Deutsche Bahn website. The main station is close to the historic centre. The van is still useful for a group, suitcases, an early or late departure, or to combine Freiburg and Titisee.
ID for the border
Freiburg is in Germany: bring your ID card or passport. Checks may take place at the border. Travellers from outside the European Union should bring their passport and, if needed, a Schengen visa.
