Distance and journey time
From Place Kléber to Colmar station (the arrival point we used): about 78 km, around 1 hour by car depending on traffic (OSRM road calculation). Our guide quotes about 75 km via the A35 motorway.
Why go to Colmar?
- Little Venice and the old town: colourful houses, cobbled lanes, the House of Heads, the Koïfhus.
- The Unterlinden Museum and its Issenheim Altarpiece, painted by Grünewald between 1512 and 1516. It is closed on Tuesdays (check the museum’s website before you visit).
- The Christmas markets: six markets in 2026, from Monday 23 November to Tuesday 29 December. The centre is closed to vehicles during opening hours: the driver drops you as close as possible. See Colmar Christmas market.
- A base for the Wine Route: Eguisheim, Riquewihr and Kaysersberg are close by (see Wine Route with a private driver).
- EuroAirport is often a good arrival point for Colmar: see EuroAirport transfer.
What about public transport?
This is one of the routes where the train is simplest: TER regional trains run directly between Strasbourg and Colmar, with frequent services in the daytime (source: our guide Getting around Alsace without a car). Colmar station is about 15 to 20 minutes on foot from the historic centre. For a family with luggage, a group or people who walk little, the van is still more comfortable: it drops you as close to the centre as possible.
During the Christmas markets, the Colmar area shuttles leave from Colmar station for the villages (tickets online, daily quotas): see the Christmas villages page.
Book
The simulator above confirms the price for your address. Then book on the Booking page. If you want the driver to wait for you there or continue to the villages, that is on quote. Plan your day with our guide Colmar day trip.
