European Parliament sessions in Strasbourg: 2026–2027 dates and practical tips

Twelve times a year, Strasbourg hosts the European Parliament’s plenary sessions. During those weeks, MEPs, assistants, officials, journalists, lobbyists and visitors all arrive at once. Hotels fill up, and trains and roads to the European district get busier.

Whether you are coming to work or to watch a debate, here are the dates to know and our advice for planning your stay.

These dates were adopted by the European Parliament itself. The calendar can occasionally change, so always check the Parliament’s official website before booking.

Good to know: Christmas and Parliament The November 2026 session ends on Thursday 26th, the day before the Strasbourg Christmas market’s announced opening (Friday 27 November 2026). Watching a debate or visiting Parliament

Visiting the European Parliament is free of charge. The details below come from the Parliament’s official visitor website.

During sessions, as an individual. Individuals, families and small groups (up to 9 people) can register to watch debates from the public gallery. Seats are limited and advance registration is required. Gallery visits last around 30 minutes.

As a group. Groups of 20 to 100 people can book a visit with a presentation, Q&A and about 30 minutes in the chamber. Parliament recommends booking 2 to 3 months ahead.

Outside sessions. The Parlamentarium Simone Veil, an interactive exhibition, is open to drop-in visitors during opening hours.

Good to know: bring your ID A valid physical ID is compulsory (passport or national ID card). Photocopies and digital IDs on your phone are not accepted. No large luggage: there is a security check. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.


Getting to the European Parliament

Parliament sits in the Louise Weiss building, 1 Allée du Printemps, in the European district.

  • By tram: from the station, take line C (or A/D) and change to line E for “Parlement européen”.
  • By bus: line H, or lines 6, 30 and 72 to “Droits de l’homme”, about a 10-minute walk.
  • By van with driver: straight from the station, the airport or your hotel.

Why book a driver for session week?

During session week, time is precious. A van with driver helps with:

  • Arrivals and departures: from Strasbourg airport, between Strasbourg and Frankfurt (about €550 for the vehicle) or Basel-Mulhouse, straight to your hotel. See our airport guide.

  • Meetings around town: between Parliament, your hotel and restaurants in the centre.
